Snakes on a MF blog

The web fuelled phenomenon that is Snakes on a Plane was released today.

Not since the Blair Witch project was released in 1999 have we seen such fervour around a pre-release. User content has stoked the anticipation, with fanboy posters and trailers the order of the day.

New Line decided not to release any previews of the movie (which both intrigued and infuriated in equal doses) and rumour has it even refilmed certain parts of the movie to include ‘classic’ lines that whilst doing the rounds on the web, didn’t actually feature in the film (“Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!”).

A demonstration of the power of the web? Certainly. New Line spotted the opportunity early doors and have exploited it for all it’s worth. However, I’m not sure whether this will go down as a case study in canny marketing, or a lesson in film titling….

I can’t wait to see it!
